I am so impressed with the role that you play at the school, and instantly understood the importance of it, especially for a middle school boy who loves sports, schmoozing, and making impressions. The fact that you coach in everything from persuasive tone to what's-really-happening is most compelling. We have two options for our son this coming year, both gifted schools, but neither has someone like you.

In addition to the worthwhile, informative, and interesting things that Gary has taught me, it was fun. From everything from the gilded age, to the war in Vietnam, you taught me and made me want to hear more. You've pulled a classic Gary: turn something seemingly 'boring' into something that caught my complete attention. Also, you gave me many opportunities to show off the thousands of things that I've learned in methods that are extremely entertaining and enjoyable but rarely found utilized by a humanities class.

I loved the unique things you had us do, such as writing our own Declaration of Independence or having lively discussions about Al Qaeda or Nazism. Also, thank you for recommending some books for me that I might never have read on my own.
